I've decided that I finally have this addin ready for it's first release. This is my first addin using the .Net environment. It requires that you have AT LEAST version 2008 of Inventor. It is currently ONLY compiled and setup to run on a 32 bit version of Inventor ON TOP of a 32 bit Windows OS. Certain registry hacks may make it function on a 64 bit version of Windows, I do not currently have the means to test that, but I plan on supporting 64 bit OS and Inventor ASAP.

The install package is setup for an initial trial period of 31 days commencing the first time it is accessed from within Inventor. A permanent license can be purchased by sending me $40 per seat via paypal along with your MAC address(es) shown in the About Box. This info supercedes what is currently mentioned in the help file, I noticed tonight I still have to update that.

This is a MAJOR upgrade from the Renumber Balloons addin I pulled out of my Inventor Utilities addin last year for revamping. It has great UNDO support, has the option to use Alphabetic character numbering, based on the characters you specify, and better intelligence to ignore duplicate balloons that have already been renumbered (in the current dialog session).

Current limitations: There is currently NO support for multi-level renumbering. This support MAY be added at a later time, but so far only one person has ever responded to my questionaire as to having a need to renumber multi-level balloon/parts list structures. Another limitation is due to a glitch in the Inventor API regarding my tracking ballons that have already been renumbered. This limitation is that the addin cannot renumber balloons that point to a custom or virtual part. Hopefully the next release of Inventor will fix this, and I can update the code to fix it.

For more info, please read the help file included after installing the addin. Please let me know if you experience any issues.

Thanks,
Bob Schader

P.S.
Damn, my zipfile to upload is 1,570,718 bytes, and the forum said I was only allowed 1MB on a zip upload, but the allowed extensions lists 1.46MB as the limit. If I can't get Sean to up my limit, I will have to put it somewhere else I guess and I will leave a link for it here!

OK, Here is a link to a crude download page (for now):

I just finished posting updated installation files for this addin, currently set to require Inventor 2009+.

This new release includes support (hopefully) for 64 bit Inventor. I do not have a 64 bit system to test with, so I am hoping someone will try it out and let me know if it installs and works correctly. Be sure to download the 64 bit version if you would like to try it out for me.

Try it now, apparently the page update didn't upload the zip files.

Sorry to have to tell you but it doesn't load in Invnetor 2009 64 bit on XP Pro 64 bit. Thats too bad I was getting excited the 64 bit addins were going to be popping up soon. Hope you can figure it out. If I can help in any way let me know.

It's probably more geared to Vista 64. I think there MAY be registry differences between the 2, should be the main difference. I'll have to research that into next week. Hopefully someone with Vista can try it out for me too?

FishermanFritz,

Please try unzipping the attached bat file to the addin's installation directory and run it to register the addin properly. This worked for me on a XP64 system. Probably needed on Vista too! I need to find out now why NSIS installer did not run this batch file!

It works. Woo Hoo.
It just isn't what I was looking for. I was hoping it would take a string of ballons and sort them.
eg,
1,5,25,13,6
would then become
1,5,6,13,25

Oh well I really need to learn how to make my own addins. I just don't even know where to start since I know absolutly nothing about coding.

How about you pay Bob to code you exactly what you want?

That would be the easy way out. It would be handy if I knew how to code so that as new situations arise I could make the addins as I need them.

Well, I already figured it out, but haven't tested it yet. I went and looked at my NSIS script for 64 bit, and found that though I was copying the RegAddin64.bat file at install, I was still trying to execute the RegAddin.bat file from the 32 bit install, which just wasn't there!Though some of the stuff in that sample script might come in handy?

You don't need to run a .bat with NSIS
you can run the regasm.exe from NSIS script

execwait '$WINDIR\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe /codebase "$INSTDIR\${ADDIN_DLL1}"'

Maybe, but when I was originally working on it I tried several approaches and everything except the batch file failed for unknown reasons. So I stuck with what seemed to work at the time...
