 ...the data storage rates are dropping!

1TB for $256 yr

...or even 400gb for $100 yr!

Google needs to work on how their apps talk to each other. Right now it's this mashed collection of logins that don't always work seamlessly. Then throw in multiple accounts and things get really messy. A perfect example is that I have a YouTube account on one Google account and am trying to get it transferred over to another account. As far as I can tell you cannot. So now I have all of this RND stuff on my personal account that I cannot move.

And tech support? Ha! For such a large company they have next to no tech support.

...and...its HERE!

drive.google.com

...and the optional upgrade cost appears to be cheaper than previous post.

Do you actually have access to it yet?
I just checked and it is not available yet on either my free gmail account or my google apps account :(

Yup...if you update your GDoc's app (aka Drive app) on your android phone it will provoke an email in no time!

...you must register for the service on the drive page mentioned above 1st.

Got it installed on my free gmail account - initial impression - its pretty much "dropboxish". I was hoping for some additional controls to prevent the same file from being opened on 2 computers at the same time - I haven't found that functionality yet. Seems a little slower to sync files than dropbox as well.

Agreed...Dropbox is slick...but a function I'd like that Drop box does not (and I have not tested G-Drive) is to push content to a folder and the user have read-only functionality.

Drop Box doesn't restrict the file access :(

Oh and have you tried the new "Quick URL Link" function of DropBox? ...it allows you to send a link to a file and the recipient DOES NOT need a Drop Box account!

It's a good news. They offer 5GB capacity for free! But is not available yet. Waiting to come soon.

OK, serious question. How does G drive handle sharing? The (one) nice thing about DropBox is that it is so easy to setup a shared folder with someone else. With Skydrive, I can easily send a link to a file or folder, but it doesn't do a very good job syncing files between between people. You need to work from the Skydrive folder if you are the gues to the that file or folder.

I'm not sure if this is going to change for Windows 8. Skydrive in Windows 8 is going to be a big deal. It is going to show up as a standard location in Windows Explorer (see image). This integration will also be ported back to Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Sign in with your Microsoft ID and everything will be synced from your Skydrive account to the computer you signed in on.

I am disappointed that they just cut the free storage for skydrive from 25 GB down to 7 GB. And the upgrade pricing plans for more storage aren't nearly as cheap as what Google is offering. It will be interesting to see if they adjust those prices or not.

G Drive has a desktop app and mobile app...the desktop app works much like the Bropbox desktop app.
I can easily send a link - yes G Drive already has this function...and Drop Box just dropped theirs flavor of it...

Only problem with this (and DropBox and G Drive have this issue) is if you log in at work ALL your files are sync'd (my work around is to use another Gmail account for remote access from work...therefore you can control the access from your primary account...aka share folders/files from primary to secondary account)...and therefore no multiple account management is available yet :(

I suspect this is a game we are going to be played with for the 1st yr or 2 before this type of service becomes extremely popular with the general public.

Speed: I will admit I've not tried Skydrive for a long time now...but it was VERY slow before...and yes DropBox is King for speed (absolutely wicked fast) ...G-Drive is not bad at all...not sure how Skydrive is these days?...but I'll be looking for reviews and benchmarks here in the coming months...

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this will work more like iCloud for OSX and iOS. You will be able to choose what files get synced to what machine.

As far as Skydrive speed, I'm not sure if it is fast or not. I know in its current form it has some limitations like not being able to add a folder to skydrive. You can make it a Mesh folder and that folder will by used by the Auto Sync portion of Skydrive. But if you just want to add a folder to Skydrive that isn't part of the space that syncs back to your desktop, then you have to add the files individually.

Skydrive now also works with OSX, iOS, and Android. There are apps for those programs.

Skydrive works extrememely well for 1 person. But if you want to work collaboratively as a group of people, then Dropbox seems to be the king.

...nope...G Drive is King for collaboration...in fact all of the Google doc's collaboration features are outstanding...my biz partner and I edit spreadsheets simultaneously...pretty slick actually.
