Problem: You have moved to a new computer or you have reformatted your machine and your IPW license no longer will activate.

Solution: The IPW license is tied to the computer name. Simple rename the new computer to the same name as the old computer. Can can then activate your license with the same activation code and it will not count as a new activation towards your license count.

If you are unable to rename the computer for whatever reasons there is a small fee to manually change the license server. Contact sean@ipropwiz.com to obtain further information.

OK Sean this may be a problem for me. We lease all of our workstations. As they come and go they have computer names like PC####. Never is a PC name repeated (as of yet). My workstations are on a 3 yr lease cycle and are staggered so not all change out at the same time, some come and go each year. We have the 50 seat license so I do not forsee me hitting my ceiling anytime soon, When I have completed this install base I should have 28 left. I have two machines on their way that will replace ones with iProp already on them so that would pull me down to 26. That would mean my install base is half of license limit which is fine. I guess the bigger question is what happens when we upgrade to 2013?

Todd,

Is there some reason why IT cannot simply rename the PC to the same name as the old one when it comes in. It's really rather simple and does not affect anything else on the machine. We often find that IT depts have no real reason not to do this other than "they don't want to".

Sean,

As you can image a place the size of us has layers of procedures for everything. All of our terminals (not just CAD terminals) are leased and they number on the 1000's. These are tracked in and out by PC number (which is the PC name), model, and serial number. There really is no option for me to address keeping the same PC name since it is our MIS group that controls the leases and it is their procedures. I am the only "non-MIS" member that has admin rights on my workstations and could change the name myself but that would be against policy. Not really worth the corporate arm wrestling match it would take to approve such a change in policy just for my workstations.

But like I said, I am in no danger of running out of licenses for this upgrade and a good way into the next. I was just hoping there was a way for me to report to you PC names that had been removed to free up seats if I need to down the road. If not I will just address the issue with you when and if it becomes an actual problem for me which it may not.

So the real question remains about IV2013 upgrades. I will be moving to Vault Pro this year that will make me go up to IV2013 sooner than later. The PC names do not change for that so is there an issue there?

Todd,

We will have a separate install of iPropwiz for the next release, but the current licenses will be used. You will have to install the new version, but other than that it should work without issue.
