SW 2010 Premium 64 bit:
I don't get too many crashes in general, but when editing components in an assembly that have been designed with references to other components in the assembly, I sometimes get a ridiculous number of crashes (today is one of those situations, apparently). I changed the component that crashes SW when I start editing it (while in the assembly) to a Virtual component, hoping that would help, but to no avail.
I had looked at using the Layout feature when I started this project, but it seemed (at the time) to me that it would not be particularly beneficial - positioning things with blocks that I first have to create seemed to me to waste too much time - most of my components already exist as solid models, so it seems it would be faster & easier to just bring them into the assembly & position them with mates -why draw them over again?
-But if using the layout feature would somehow make it easier for SW so it doesn't crash like this, maybe I should do it this way -despite the fact that this way imposes limitations*.
I'd very much like to hear what others have experienced, regarding this issue.
*such as if I, say, want to bring this assy -as a sub-assy- into another assy, and make it Flexible so that its moving parts can be manually moved in the new parent assy - this can't be done if the sub-assy has a Layout sketch.
