Create a metric dimstyle in standards and then in your Object Defaults apply this style with diameter and hole note dims.

When setting up the metric dimstyle you must uncheck "use part units" in the holenote setup in the dimstyle to see the "mm" value.

You can always select any dim and then select any style you want to apply to the dim through the styles dropdown.

There is a switch in App Options->Drawing Tab->Default Object Style that will cause the IDW to keep applying a manually selected dimstyle to the rest of the dimensions created so just make sure it is set to "by standard" and make sure your Object Defaults (in Styles) are setup properly.

All this assumes you are using a proper Style Library with read/write permission so don't forget to add these settings to your standard then update to the Style Library blah blah blah....

Now go and blow away all your hidden dims before some catastrophe happens and the entire shop sits there looking right at you with what probably won't be love in their eyes.

But be careful to make sure the metric dimensions are obviously marked as metric by having it add the mm. I have seen mistakes made and questions asked if it is not clear there are mixed dimensions.

so far so good. i am going to give my template drawing file to the others here and see if it works for them too. thanks for the help guys.

I supply alternate dimension styles in both my Metric and English templates so all a users has to do is highlight a placed dimension and apply that style.
