I am looking for a few quotes regarding the benefits of good design, shop or assembly drawings.

I am also interested a few that comment about the benefits of a solid model to reduce errors, etc...

-The fewest original ideas would be 0 - Did Dyson mean a good engineer should just copy other's ideas? That would sound to me more like the work of a designer, not an engineer. Maybe, being a scientist himself, Dyson didn't like engineers (or someone who might say to a scientist "that's a great theory, but to actually make one would require a ton of money in tooling".

I think the actual quote goes on to say "There are no prima donnas in engineering". So the quote is quite the opposite, meaning engineers base their designs on sound engineering principles, that have been proven over time to work.

Even new designs and ground breaking leaps forward in engineering can still be broken down to first principles.

OK, I think I know what he was saying, basicaly: A Good Engineer Shouldn't Try To `Reinvent The Wheel' -As we often say here in the U.S.-.

Hah, for all I know, maybe you guys invented that saying. How about this one:

"A Bird In Hand Gathers No Moss" - No, wait a minute, I think it's
"A Rolling Bird Gathers No Stones" - No, that's not right, either.
How about "Don't Cross Yor Bridges Before They Hatch"
No! - Jeez, I can't seem to get anything right today! :wink:
