Was trying a little experiment and hoping to find the missing piece to the puzzle. Wanted to add some new search paths to the Support paths for AutoCAD 2010 *BUT* would rather be able to edit them into the settings rather then have to sit there and got to Tools/Options/Files/Support File Search Path, then click ADD, then click BROWSE, then browse out and add the path and then repeat....

Does anyone know if there is a file that these search paths are stored in and if we can manually edit (add) paths to this file?

Thanks!

You can export the Profile (Options/Profile/Export) as an ARG file. This file is in Windows REG format and can be edited and then Imported back into AutoCAD.

Look for a Key that ends in "General"....
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-7005:409\Profiles\<<ACADMPP>>\General]
"TemplatePath"="T:\\R2004\\Templates"
"ACAD"="G:\\TestBed\\Template;G:\\TestBed\\DVB;G:\\.......

The support path is in the "ACAD" = entry.

You can also directly edit the registry.

Exported the profile, bounced out to the DOS world and captured a text file with all the paths with :

dir /b /x /s *. >filepath.txt

(Yeah, I still remember how to do DOS stuff) and then edited the file so that all the single \ were replaced with \\ and all the line breaks I replaced with ; and then pasted it in the ARG file where you specified.

Then imported the profile, set as current and TAH-DA! It worked great!

Thanks!!!! :thumbsup:

Follow up question.... is there any way to have AutoCAD come up and keep this new profile as the current one? Seems to want to revert back when I exit.

Check your AutoCAD start-up shortcut. The Shortcut/Target field should look something like this (AutoCAD Mechanical profile shown)...
Code:
"D:\Program Files\Autodesk\ACADM 2010\acad.exe"  /p <<ACADMPP>>

The text string following the "/p" switch is the profile name that AutoCAD starts with. Otherwise, you have to go into the Options dialog and activate it each time.

Once again, worked perfect!

Just an FYI, you used up your allotment of question marks (?) this month. I edited the title to get rid of them but you don't get them back ;)

As a side note, this exports all the menu settings for toolbars and buttons and sharing it with someone else kind of wipes out their personalized settings. So we'd just have to append that to each person's personal profile so we don't step all over their settings.

Since the file is in Windows REG format, you could create a small file that just had the entry making the path changes. You could then run it at each user's workstation or better yet, add it to your log in script.
Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.2\ACAD-7005:409\Profiles\<<ACADMPP>>\General]
"ACAD"="G:\\TestBed\\Template;G:\\TestBed\\DVB;G:\\.......

Oops....I think I just used up my allotment of periods....

I am pretty sure that you can still set ACAD in the environment and have it change the path.
