Now that we've upgraded to IV2010, some of us have been "trying out" the ribbons menus. There are some features of it that I like, such as the tabbed windows at the bottom of the screen, but bunches of it just seem counter-productive. I almost exclusively used the classic quick menu bar and docked it on the right side of the screen with no text. I had every command I needed readily available as a single click on the side of the screen. Very rarely did I ever click on anything from the top menu besides dimension styles, linetypes and things like that.

Now when I try to find a command with the ribbon, it's first trying to remember what main listing it's under, then deciding if I need to click or just hover over the command, then viewing around to try to find what sub-menu it's under. Taking several clicks and a bunch of mouse motion for what used to be a quick single pick on the right side. And I don't care how "used to it" I get, moving up to the top and drilling down thru several menus to find an icon to pick is a pain.

I cannot find any way to have the ribbon menu on AND still get the quick icon bar so I can single click 99% of the commands I need instantly. How is everyone else doing this????

Just found how to add commands to the quick access toolbar but would be nice if we had options other then above or below the ribbon.... maybe on the side of the window?

Don't get too excited about adding any addins to the the QAT, as they aren't persistent from session to session.

Some are reverting to the Classic UI. I like things like having all the sketch constraints available via the ribbon. I dislike having to hunt for the lesser used commands. In time you can get used to it. Consider looking for things that help speed you up and see if they offset things that slow you down. Since I use a lot of the keyboard short cuts, the Ribbon isn't as much of a hindrance for common use commands.

Just getting started with the Quick Access Toolbar but if you're in a part, a drawing, a sketch or an assembly, do you get a different Quick Access Toolbar or the same one all the time?

Answered my own question.... yes it is different in each mode of operation.

You might try running the Ribbon Introduction and Ribbon Tutorials on the Get Started Tab.

Okay, got the Quick Access Toolbar working good BUT does anyone know how to change things like the background color of the Quick Access Toolbar???? Added a bunch of commands I always use and the background is a dark gray with dim icons and it's almost impossible to see what they are until you move your mouse over them and highlight them. I tried different color settings, different dark/light and icon settings but nothing seems to change the background of the Quick Access Toolbar.

The gray background and dim icons seems to only be drawing icons when in sketch mode. When I get out of sketch mode the icons are all bright. These are icons that are still active (line, text, leader, etc) and in sketch mode on a drawing (IDW).

I was wondering when you'd see the light. Good in theory. Bad in practice.

To answer your question to change the order you have to remove them all and then add buttons in the order you want. Simple hunh... :loco:
