My house computer graphics stopped working yesterday after we had a very brief power outage. The monitor still powers up fine so I know thats not the problem. I was able to hook it up to my tv as well with the HDMI connection, so I am kinda confused about what the problem would be?

I am using the onboard graphics from this Asus M3N78 PRO motherboard.

When I power up the computer with the cable plugged into the computer there is no message on the computer screen until I unplug it, then it says to check my connection on the monitor.

Any ideas?

Oh the computer boots up fine. Like I said I tried plugging in the HDMI cable in the back of the computer to the TV and it works fine. I can get right into windows and everything looks good.

Not that I understand the onboard video very well, but would it not also power the HDMI out? So if it was fried would that not work?

hmmm, thought you said neither (monitor or TV) worked....how do you change resolutions between TV and monitor? maybe that's a "function" key combo, might have been hit on accident? ...try another monitor...or better yet try the monitor you state is ok on another PC...laptop? ...just giving options to rule out :)

I figured it out last night.

Brought home the laptop and hooked it up to the monitor, and it was working fine like I suspected. So I hooked up the computer to my 42" tv (which I had second thoughts about unhooking after I was done;) via the hdmi cable off the motherboard. As it turns out the bios had changed from onboard graphics to pci-e slot. I have never heard of that happening before, especially since onboard graphics is the default.

Anyways its all good now.

Thanks
