I see that President Obama has been visiting our little corner of the world.

Yeah that's American politics for you. Why not, he (nor McCain or Hillary) have not been doing their REAL job for the last 6 months.

Did you hear his speech yesterday...he is not only a proud citizen of the United States of America, but also a Citizen of the World....whatever that means...I was unaware the US was giving out dual citizen ships, and that one of them could be for a non-recognized "global entity". I'll have to look into this

Barry's speech yesterday was disgraceful! I hope the free beer and rock concert made up for it. It

I think Steve is talking about our many military bases in Germany.

One more note, even "technically" the occupation didn't end till 1990.

politics has become intensely boring lately.
when one party holds a rally somewhere they make sure that no hecklers from the other party get in to the venue. this is because of tv broadcasting. no candidate wants to stand on tv with egg running down his face.

back in my university days , political campaining every 5 years or so was the highlpoint of entertainment with plenty of sharp comments, rotten eggs and apples thrown in. these days its like watching paint dry.

I think it is fairly safe to assume that Obama doesn't understand simple economics!

In what world does his plan make sense?

I'll read that later when I have more time but it's also safe to assume that McCain doesn't understand simple economics either since he admitted it personally.

Just when this country needs great economic leadership, we're left with no reasonable choices.

Ah, the Gosplan...in 5 years everything will be ship-shape, right?

Whether you think the profits by oil companies are fair or not I do not understand how anyone cannot see that taxing them on "windfall profits" will not drive the price of gas HIGHER.

If I make $100 and you tax me $25 on this, I'm going to raise my price to $150 so that you can tax me $50 and I'm still making the same profit. It's pretty basic capitalism.

I also have an issue with taxing companies for "windfall profits". What happens if RND all of a sudden starts making huge money. Is the government going to take those extra profits? It's a slippery slope.

Yes, but @ $150 the consumer (demand) may switch to an alternative product (supply). Unless you can set the price of all competition (price fixing) thru an informal agreement (collude) of all parties (cartel) you have to create perceived value for your product (branding) or price your product competitively.
