I ran the Bellin Run (a 10k race). I finished in 1:07:41. That is 7 minutes faster than last year, but still slower than the turtle....

Hey 1:07 is a very respectable 10k time. You should be proud of that.

If your baseball team doesn't have a Weenie race, you are missing out!

Here in Pittsburgh, we don't have Weenie races at the baseball game, we have Pierogie races. No joke (wiki). If you weren't aware, once a year our pierogies race against your sausages. Our pierogies are lean, mean, trim, and are going to kick your Brew-Crew sausages' butts this year. :P

Unfortunately for the Pirates, the Pierogie Race is more entertaining than the baseball game.

So can you find Pierogie's any where other than PA?

Nothing better than a Yocco hot dog and some pierogies when I'm in the Allentown PA area!

I don't think I've seen them anywhere else in the country though - maybe I need to look harder!

I do not believe so. Pierogies are definitely "a 'Burgh thing" and it's becoming more and more clear that other parts of the country have never even heard of them. It's a Hunky kind of town, and many of us were born and raised on Hunky kind of food - stuffed peppers, stuffed cabbage (a.k.a. "golomki"), and haluski (egg noodles and cabbage). It's making my arteries constrict just thinking about it. :P

Drive though any small-town suburb of Pittsburgh and you'll find fifteen orthodox churches selling hand-made pierogies. Mrs. T's doesn't even come close to these things.

Before posting this, I Google'd the term "haluski" to make sure I spelled it right. The first URL that was listed as a hit was "pittsburgh.about.com".

Mmmmm Now I'm hungry and I don't even know what a Pierogie is!

To Brian Iwaskewycz: I would like to warn you about being so sure of your team's food-on-legs racers. The Brewers' Sausage racers have added a new sausage. A Chorizo. Look out he might be a ringer  (Personally I still always cheer for Hot Dog.)

Thanks Sean, I am proud because I know how hard I trained for it (103.5 miles), and how far I could run when I started training (1 mile). I never was a runner, but I took up running after ACL surgery.

It just blows my mind to see people pass me who appear to be in worse shape than I am. I guess this running thing is harder than it appears!

This year I only got passed by 6 people pushing strollers, and none of them were pushing twins. That is down from 10 last year! It's good to have goals!

I can get Iron City down here, although I'm sure it's the same as Yuengling - tastes better the closer you are to where it's made.

I've seen people use the aluminum bottles for tuned pipes on model airplane 2-strokes :)

kristina: have you seen the nike+ipod thing? turns running into a video game!

I am the one on the right with the bead in my goatee.

My yearly trip across NC on a bike. Picture is with a good friend from Asheville. That 1 week a year without the wife and kid when I can drink beer, ride my bike and turn the world off.
