mCADForums is proud to present Contest #3. Special thanks to Autodesk for providing the first prize.

THE CONTEST

This one is a rendering contest. The contest will be to model and render an "everyday" object. By "everyday" object we mean a stapler, or cell phone or coffee mug etc.. If you are not sure if your object is "everyday" post in the forums and ask and we'll give a ruling. Keep in mind that the model CAN be an assembly.

HOW TO ENTER

Submissions should be at least one JPG or PNG image of the render. More than one might gain you some extra points. Zip up the images and name the file the same as your username and reply to this post. You may enter multiple times but each time it must be a different object.

NOTE: After you upload the file you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT. I have temporarily turned off the ability for users to download (but they can still upload) in this category. Unless you get an error message the file DID upload. You WILL NOT SEE IT HOWEVER. This keeps other from looking at your work before entering.

JUDGING

The judges will be, myself, Charles Bliss, Quinn Zander and Garin Gardiner of Autodesk. The entries will be judged on..

Creativity & Complexity (was it a model of a cube or a Swiss watch) 1-10 points (20%)
Rendering & Realism (does it look real or fake, how well did you use the features of Studio) 1-10 points (50%)
Overall (general "coolness" of the rendering) 1-10 points (30%)

Mush this into a formula and we'll have our winner. In the event of a
tie the winner will be chosen by a vote by the three of you.

A few more rules:

1. The model MUST be created in Inventor. Just like in the Tour de France the winner will be required to submit the model. Let's not "pull a Landis".
2. The rendering must be done in Autodesk Inventor Studio. No post processing is allowed.
3. No STEP or SAT files allowed. You have to model it yourself. If it's an assembly we'll allow SAT or STEPS for small items such as nuts and bolts etc.. Ask if you are not sure.

THE DEADLINE

All entries must be uploaded not later than 23:59:59 PM Eastern Standard Time on October 13, 2006. No entries after this date will be accepted. We'll announce the winner as soon as we can after this date.

Also, a maximum of 75 entries will be accepted. We only have a certain amount of time to review them all.

THE PRIZEs

First Place: A free conference pass to Autodesk University 2006 (a $1300 value). You are responsible for airfare and hotel and all other expenses incurred.

Second Place: A (to be determined size) USB thumbdrive/laser pointer

THE FINE PRINT

The winner will be at the sole discretion of mCADForums.com and the impartial judges. Only residents of the US and Canada are eligible for this contest. By entering the contest you agree to abide by the rules and the decisions made by mCADForums.com and the judge. You also agree to hold harmless mCADForums.com, the judges and Autodesk. You give mCADForums and Autodesk permission to use the images that you submit. Employees of Autodesk or VARS are not eligible for this contest. Past winners of any mCADForums contest are not elligible for this contest. This is for fun. Let

By the way, feel free (and we encourage you) to add props to your rendering to make it look better.

e.g. add a coffee cup to a model of a stapler on a desk...

Sean, can you tell us how many entries you've received? I'd like to get mine in before the 75 limit

Sean am I reading the submission details wrong by thinking I should only post the final renders? Do you want the models and if so how big of a zip can I post?

David,

Only post images of the renders. If you win we'll ask for the models later.

Is the prize transferable? My pass to AU is already taken care of, but I might like to pass on the prize to someone else.

If you choose not to take the prize it will go to the next runner up.
