I'm editing this model and it has a bunch of louvers. I tried to edit the louvers in the model tree but no dice. So I use the feature pallette to put in another form tool that is a louver and still can't figure out how to do anything but position it. That leads me to believe that in SW2003 you model a form tool for each actual tool you have and thus when you choose a particular tool everything but location is now set. Is that right? Now way to rmb and change to a different louver you have to do the feature over?

You can/should only reposition existing louvers. I would recommend reading the SW help file on this topic.

I have used pallet features on a few occasions and from memory I had to save a copy of the original louver palette tool, rename it then re-dimension changing its size. Delete the old louver from my model and then insert the new one. It was quite a simple task.

Eddy.

Thanks for the reply. In SW2003 turns out positioning is a bit buggy. It wouldn't let me position things from projected edges for whatever reason.

This is an area where IV is much more sophisticated than SW. In general I don't seem to be running into as many SW bugs as IV bugs though!

What service pack are you on?

I do recall a new SW release on SP0 (not sure if 2003 or 2004) where they screwed up the placement of palette tools. SP1 rectified the problem. I will check when I

I can confirm it was SW2003 SP0

Quote from my VAR on 03/01/2003 "Yes- you have spotted the problem with SW2003 SP0. We are just waiting for SP1 to be released, which should be quite shortly."

We're on SW2003 SP3.1. I know they had later service packs but I haven't installed them because of some complications.

Well right after Autodesk decided all their bugs were my problem and not theirs we bought a company that had a large SW database and 23 seats of SW2003. We will most likely become a SW house of things go well because of Autodesks inability to be ethical.

I am pretty sure that 2005 added the ability to make configurations of Library features. I am still on 2004 right now so I can't confirm if this works with Form tools as well but it should since they are library features, hopefully someone with 2005 can test this for you.
This would allow you to do what you want and change to a different size louvre , and also not have to model every size.

It sounds like 2005 has a lot of improvements that I would like. I just need to find the time to install and try it. Too much production work, too many people needing CAD Admin time..... good to be busy I guess.

Ah, I knew about the buyout but wasn't sure why 2003. So they are on 2003? Gotcha.
