First an earthquake, now a hurricane. What did you wicked people in VA do to deserve all this?.... Oh wait, DC, never mind ;)

Yes we appear to be in the path. Man that earthquake was strange. We all kind of thought at first facilities had droppped a new air handler on the roof or something. Taking off tomorrow to make sure we are straight for the storm. Many people leaving but I think we will ride this one out.

Yeah, I really don't think it'll be that bad. Just watch the storm surge if you are near a bay or inlet. Good luck and stay dry!

Yeah looks to be between a 2 and 3 when it hits us. We are in the target area so need to spend the day preparing. The difference between a storm like this hitting Florida as apposed to Virginia is the size of our trees. I have a two story house with 9ft ceiling and a 12/12 pitch roof but the trees around me are still 30ft plus higher than my house. And my land is mostly wooded so that is my biggest concern. I do live on the backwaters of a creek off of the bay so I will see the storm surge however I do not believe it will make it up to my house.

The image below is basically a screen shot of my land. As you can see my house is in a hole of large trees. All the way to the left you can see the back waters of the creek on my land.

Just made reservations for the wife, kids, and dog to go west for tomorrow night while I hold down the fort. I am sure we will loose our power for many days after this but EVERYONE in my town has generators!

I'll let ya'll know how we fair once power and internet are back.

Not all of FL is beaches..;) I have a similar house with some 60' tall pine and oak tress on all sides of me. The pines will sway like crazy during a storm but are very flexible. You'll watch them thinking they will snap but they can withstand some pretty strong winds. The oaks are the scary ones. When you hear the CRACK it's too late.

Stay safe buddy...

Yeah I guess my view of Fl is of where my inlaws live in Orlando. Not to many trees to speak of (lots of damn purple stuff though, whats up with that!!!!).

It has come down to a 2 at land fall in the outer banks so we are still watching to see if the rest of the family will take of tomorrow morning early. Of course my kids see that as a mini vacation: (Hey Dad does the hotel have a workout room and indoor pool? Free WiFi? OK lets go!!!). Oh when life was so free and we did not have to care so much about the world around us.

The bad thing here is there is basically one line coming into our town for power. So even though the last storm (Isabel) came over as a tropical storm we were still without power for about 9 days.

Got thru with no damage at all. Just high water and lots of limbs. Power came back on at 3 am this morning.
Did learn an awful lots about my generator yesterday after tearing down the carb. twice to clean it out and finding out the problem was the low oil shut off! Dohhhhh
