I wonder if it is enough money to bring all those people back to life that got killed by terrorists on 9-11-01?

...a co-worker reminded me of something that needs to be re-iterated to every single American...and like wise to the rest of the world.

...and I quote "Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage, and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty.

Nick, I am pretty sure I refers to the well known fact that the world only began when the USA was formed...everything before is irrelevant. It is true, just ask them... :P

I don't profess to be an expert on American history (indeed I dont know too much about Englands either) but, unless refering to idigenous peoples of the US from approx 12-40,000 years ago, the term "ancient" does seem a wee bit over dramatised to describe a country that started being settled by Europeans around mid 1500.

Its like statistics, you can make them say anything, Websters also defines ancient as:-

relating to a remote period, to a time early in history, or to those living in such a period or time ; especially : of or relating to the historical period beginning with the earliest known civilizations and extending to the fall of the western Roman Empire in a.d. 476

But lets not fall out about the use of a word 8)

...yeah I'm no History buff either and I would have to agree the term "ancient" is over dramatized...I think "age-old" is more appropriate.

No amount of money will bring anyone back the almost 3000 people that died that day.

Just like it will not bring back the almost 90,000 innocent Iraqi's or the almost 5000 US soldiers since the invasion of Iraq back in 2003.

I'll give this war one thing, and that is that it is a very efficient way to spend an amazing amount of money in a relatively short period of time.

Pfft...peanuts, when you compare it to the trillions they're spending in a matter of weeks on these socialist bailouts.

Remember also that on December 7th 1941 around 3000 servicemen were murdered by another enemy that sought our distruction. It cost far more in lives to take care of that bunch. The lesson is simple, we either put up with these (people) blowing up our people and our friends in the name of thier cook religion OR we take them out whatever the cost! I am not saying I like the war....but it is better than the other option!

Admin: I changed that word for you. Getting a bit derogatory there.

So, starting a war in Iraq has helped America, how? How much safer are we today as a direct result of taking out Saddam Hussein? Are the Iranians now stronger and bolder as a direct result of the vacuum left behind since Saddam's demise? How much less have we spent on getting Bin Laden in Afghanistan? By the way, both wars have already cost us more than Korea or Vietnam, and we're quite far from Bush's initial estimate of no more $50 B to finish the war in Iraq.
