You sure can't disagree with this guy but . . . where was he in 1980 when he could have made a real difference?? LOL

Seems there weren't a lot of complaining going on when Bush/Reagan nearly tripled the debt from 2T to 5T. Obama's gonna have to work a lot harder to beat that record of fiscal irresponsibility.

I thought we all agreed here, though, that Presidents had little to do with it, but you can't have the argument both ways, now can ya?

Now if there's something you want to get excited about, it's this: http://247wallst.com/2011/01/25/the-bee ... d-tap-sam/

It is interesting that this graph only show through about 2007 for the debt part. Sometimes information can be framed to make a point. Look for the part that best makes your case and leave off other information if it disagrees with your point. Al Gore is pretty good at this. :D

So lets say I wanted to argue with you a little. I would then point out that from 1980 to 2007, the debt increased by about 6 trillion dollars to roughly 8 trillion dollars. From the source you list, the current national debt is almost 15 trillion dollars. One year of that total would be under the Bush administration. However, the debt has increased from 8 trillion to 15 trillion in less than four years. So it has increased more in 4 years than it did in 25 years.

I guess they decided to leave that part off the graph because it didn't fit the message they wanted to deliver?

And I should also point out that I don't know if I believe my own argument. Maybe what I am trying to point out is that, "Numbers don't lie, but liars use numbers".

Both sides of congress suck. They have quit trying to get their side to win, and make their focus on America winning.

Couldn't agree with you more. I think that to point a vulgar finger at whoever occupies the Whitehouse at the moment is completely unconstructive at best, and dangerously distractive at worst. While its certainly fun to poke holes in this pretzel logic, we need to get past posting vulgar diatribes and ridiculous assertions that an elected president is here to sell us out, Chavez-style . . .

Kellings I'm not deliberately leaving off 2008 and beyond, but lets not forget that the budget in place up to late 2009 was what we got from Bush.

I'm just posting this for the record. I agree we need to be factual, but just posting certain numbers isn't going to get the job done, and "setting the record straight" on this forum will not change the dire predicament we find the country in, going on now since 1981. But it certainly is amusing listening to the complaining on the side of the aisle now that asserted (and I hate to quote a blog that everyone will have fun poking holes in) that "Deficits Don't Matter" http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/politi ... 032197.php

So you don't think this guy is trying to show any bias? Just look at the text on his graph.

"Since 1970, NOTICE HOW THE RED INK CLOSELY MATCHES the political color" Did he really need to capitalize the part of the graph that makes his point? When someone tries to make such a point, you have to take a step back, examine not only the data, but also where the data comes from.

You say you don't really want to blame the problems on the president, yet you do it over and over again. I don't know. I used to think it matters. Now I just think it is liking cheering on your football game. Doesn't really matter who wins, the country seems to follow the same path.

Could someone re-label the chart to add who controlled the house and senate during those times.

Sell us out? No. But I think he does have an agenda. And redistribution of wealth is in that agenda.
