I got this in an email, it's a list of government agencies. After looking it over, it seems clear to me there's no way to decrease the size of government in California. Probably all states are in the same boat.

Unless you have had to deal with Government contract / bid work - your estimate of waste and corruption is probably not even close.

I could tell you stories of working as a young designer for a civil firm doing highway work in the 80's....

#68, should read 'do not go to Las Vegas'.

I recently saw Hoover Dam. First time. We took a week and drove through California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. Reflecting on all the banter about government waste, I was observent about all the government provides and how well they provide it. The roads through all those states were amazing with all the recent repairs. The National Parks were clean, well maintained and the people polite and professional. I felt like much of our taxes were going to good use.

Jerry you have taken the classic tactic of taking the opposing argument to the extreme. Most (I'm sure there are exceptions) people who complain about taxes are perfectly OK with spending them on all (most) of the things you listed. It's the wasteful spending of taxes we have issues with.

Please defend the the list Steve posted in the OP. Tell me that each and every one of those departments are necessary. If you find even 1 that is not then that's a waste of our taxes that could be used to further fund the list you posted.

How do people feel about the 3 trillion spent on the middle east wars? That kind of dwarfs the rest of the spending we (mostly) all like and much of the stupid stuff we don't like.

Not defending it but a majority of Americans were behind the wars after 9/11. Just saying..
