I recently tried this. Inventor didn't want to do it the easy way. Sorry I can't help.

MDT can easily do it and you could then import the part as a dumb solid if that would work.

For some reason I cannot see you picture, but if you are trying to drill a hole thru the wall of a pipe (perpindicular?) then try drawing a rectangle along a line drwn from the pipe center/cross section and revolving it. it creates a hole as if it were drilled?

Would be so easy if we could coil a surface (take one line coil it around as a surface, take the intersection of the surface with the cylinder then pattern along this 3D sketch.)

MDT = Mechanical DeskTop. It's the "other" Autodesk mechanical 3D solid modeling software that comes with Inventor. It's an older program based on AutoCAD but can still do some things Inventor can't.

I have tried to create a hole pattern with a 3D Coil, but the orientation will not be correct (I tried with an Inner 3D Coil, Outer 3D Coil and Center 3D Coil). Bummer!

you can do a spiral on a surface in catia. you can iges out but big problem, inventor can only read in iges surfaces, not wireframes.
I guess they still have to get to that part.

Solid Works can read in an autocad 3d dxf wireframe. you can then proceed with lofting a solid.
