Stupid thing! :bang: Ok, as you can tell from my title this is my problem. I've been able to create parts before in the assembly level. But now I can't. I had to reinstall the program for some reasons, and now it doesn't want to work. Here's the problem. I hit the Create component button; I list the name and the rest of the stuff. I pick the surface where I want to create the part. It makes the parts transparent and that's where my problem is. I can't use any of the buttons. They are all color (except the ones you can't chose at all) but then when I click on the button, it un-clicks it self. I try to pick something else from the dropdown menu of the button but you can't and there all grayed out! I can't Project Geometry at all, I can't do anything, and it's frustrating me! :bang:  :x

Can anyone out there help me?

Are you sure the template file is OK? Can you start a new part outside of the assembly?

Yeah, I can draw new parts out side of the assembly. These files I'm working with are pre made, there from a book I got, there excercises. I've done it before, and it worked. But the new ones I try with don't work. I went to the old assy that I was able to creat the part in the assy mode and it wont work either anymore.

Your assembly wouldn't be living in a Library path would it?

No... I don't think so.

Ok, I found out what the problem was. I turn off the option where on what plane the first sketch will be made. I wanted to chose which plane I would start my sketch. So each time I want to make a new part in the assembly mode, it seems like you?re ready to sketch, cause the sketch button is active, but what it?s really telling you is to pick a plane to start the sketch. After that it?s you?re normal type work. This is for any one else that runs into the problem.

You can RMB on the sketch (after you exit out of edit) and re-define the sketchplane if needed. I use this occasionally as opposed to having to pick the sketchplane each time.... I think that would make me crazy.

It is very good practice to keep everything "upright".

Be aware that any projected geometry on a redefined sketch becomes unattached.
