Hello everyone....Long time lurker here...finally have a question I cant find an answer to..Probably having a brain cramp, but here goes..
I created a section view of a model, using View tab/Section View/ Half Section View, and when I create the base view in a drawing, it comes in as the full model...I know I must be missing something, but cant figure out what. The orientation of the view I want in the drawing is not one of the typical ones, so I am bring it in as "current" orientation.
Any ideas on where I am going wrong here?
Thanks in advance..

Matt

Matt, is it possible to "crop" the view to accomplish what you need to do in the drawing? I know I have used that method before when bringing in custom orientations.

I'm not aware of any way to use a model section view in a drawing, sorry to say. But I still have a lot to learn. Anyone else?

I do not believe that a model section view can be used in a drawing. Model section views are just a tool for viewing interior parts/geometry within an iam file.

A lot of other programs, like CREO for example, require you to first create a section view on the model, before you can pull it into the drawing. This is one of the things I like about Inventor, you create section views at the drawing level. A lot more flexible in my mind.

Ok..Thanks for the replies..
I was trying to create an isometric view of a part that was not a true iso view..If I did a section view for the part on a drawing and then projected the sectioned view, I got an isometric view that was on the typical 45deg angle or whatever it is...I was trying to get something not quite on the 25 deg angle..I was looking for about 30 deg. This was for a poster view of something for one of the grad students here. See attached file.
Since this was a one time use, I just added an extrusion to the iam file that created the section view I wanted, and then deleted the extrusion after I created the pdf I needed.

You could do this using a breakout to a sketch. Create a base view to draw the section line on, then a second base view at the angle you wish to present. Then select the views, and draw the sketches for the cut( I usually just use a large rectangle) and a line or arc to cut to. Start break out, select the view to section, then switch to "To Sketch", and select the section line"

Just in case I made myself clear as mud, here's video.

Use assembly features, this is basically a cut only extrusion. You can pick and choose what parts you want included or excluded from the section.

Thanks for the replies...I think I got it now...

Another query:
I am designing a Positron Converter in IV that will stretch my skills pretty far..There is one particular part that I will need some help with..It is a coil of square tubing which consists of a coil around a coil but is all one pc. I can get inner and outer coils modeled but can not figure out how to connect them, or model as one continuous pc of tubing. maybe a 3D sketch?...I will post up a pic when I get back in the office tomorrow. Spring fever/Mental health day off today here in CNY..hehe

I would use a sweep with a guide rail to join the two ends. Post what you have so far or a picture of the finished product.
