Hi folks..
I'm modeling a centrifugal fan with Invetnor Pro 2011, I've done all the basic required things of the fan frame.. but I'm stuck in the folding of the fin because it is not a traight edge, I tried to extrude with angled plane.. but it didn't work on this curved-curled fin. I attached the part file I'm working on and a photo for the fan, thanks in advance for help.

Regards.

Zeyad

I noticed that your sketches are not constrained (or even dimensioned).
You might start here -

Dear JDMATHER..
Greetings..
I don't think that dimensioning is important here, I am familiar with constraining and dimensioning in Inventor. actually.. I used an Autocad drawing in the scketch.. I just want to know the procedures of folding the inlet end of the fin, I think it can be done be sheet tools, I tried to use them but I failed because I'm not used to these tools, if it will be useful.. I attach the AutoCad file of the fan.

Hi Zeyad,

If you create the blade extrusion as a new solid within the file you could then derive it out as a new sheet metal part. Once there you should be able to project the flat pattern and clean up the edge in question to allow you to add a flange. Place it back in to an assembly and you should be able to finish off with the correct notching etc.

Not the tidiest method but it should work.

Here is an example of a similar part that I did, but I had to fully constrain my sketches to keep track of what was going on (and to make it easy to edit).

I always thought of deriving as an intelligent way of doing hard stuffs in Inventor, in this case with the help of sheet metal, thanks jas.. your help is appreciated, I'll work on it later after studying JDMATHER's file. As for JDMATHER's file.. it doesn't have the folded egde to allow smooth entrance of air as for mine, also I would ask you to upload the .part file to allow me studying the steps of your project if you don't mind. Thanks for help dear JDMATHER..

Hi again..
After several rounds.. I finally got it right, the major mistake I've done was designing the blade as a feature of the fan, so when I tried to array the blades at the other side with a shift of 15 degrees it was so difficul and didn't work, the right approach was designing the body of the fan (cones and sides) alone and then put them in an assembly file and start desinging the blade as a new part within the assembly file, the major technique to make the fold of the blade (the entrance of air to the fan) was to use 3D sketch to track the edge of the blade and then use sweep after creating the suitble profile to make the fold of the blade alonge the curved edge. Attached below is PDF of the fan after finishing.

Thanks.

Zeyad
