Hey all haven't been active here for a bit and am still running INV2009 but am having a new problem/need and was looking for some help.

I am working remotely now and trying access the vault through a VPN. Has anyone done this before because I can access the server but the fault is not recognized. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rick

I tried using vault with VPN a few years ago and didn't enjoy the experience. The latency was atrocious. It took forever to check-in and check out.

Autodesk came out with the multi-site option, but it ended up in the *paid* Vault packages, which didn't help me.

One option that I know is in there is to put your vault on a server in a DMZ and access it directly through IIS (Internet Information Services), or something to that effect. I remember reading about it, in the help, but didn't feel like going through the trouble of setting that up. It ended up that we laid off the other Inventor users which left just me, so I moved the vault to my local machine. Thus no VPN required. :)

You do not need to put it in a DMZ. With a default install you just need to open port 80 on your firewall. When you log in enter your external IP address in the server field. It is slow, but not as slow as VPN....

Thanks for clarifying that Cory. I remember it being more complicated than that when reading the help, but it has been about 3 years since I went looking for a way to do it.

Rick,

I worked offsite by way of VPN with INV2009 and Vault WorkGroups without any issues.
Speed-wise, I honestly didn't see much of a lag.

Unfortunately for this post, I no longer work at that place anymore but if I can track down the IT guy, I'll ask him for any info on what you might be seeing.

I doubt the fact that you are using base Vault as opposed to Vault WG's would be the difference in all this???

OK, stupid question Rick.....
Do you have the correct Project file selected?

Yes, I've seen that happen.

Not sure Sean, I am using a project on my PC, do I need to use one on the server?
