Here at Canon we are heavy users of SMC Cylinders plus many other vendor products not natively done in Inventor. Sometimes the imported assembly files of these products create numberous parts files that must be dealt with.

Attached is a procedure I use to make a imported cylinder assembly SAT file into just two part files, a body and a rod. Also in this I show how I set up each cylinder with three default positional representations (this I started doing after Sean's Vegas class a couple of years ago).
