I am trying to create a tapered oval, however the profile has a 45 degree dog leg bend in it.

take a look at the attached word doc. there is a picture attached to it.

the orange piece is 2" in length and the diameters are .876", center to center is 1.115

the blue and magenta pieces only tapered in one direction, along the curve. and the profile has to follow the orange.

the gold profile had to follow the 2 45 degree peices and the profile length is 2.375"

what i did was to create 4 pieces, the orange and gold piece are sweeps, the magenta and blue sections are tapered along the curve, look at the second section picture in the doc that is attached. if there is a way to create the entire geometry in 2 halves, split length wise? if anyone has any good tips please advise. or if any have any free time to try and generate a sample please save in an 06 format.

thanks

steve

I would model the entire part as on piece the split it along the desired seams using the split function. Kind of a mini-masterpart. All the features could be done with the sweeps and rails I think and a swept surface could be used for the split. What version of inventor are you using. Maybe I can make a quick sample.

Sorry I didn't realize I was in the SW forum. :loco:

You can just loft the bend piece. Setup plane at both end with the correct profile.
Or loft the whole thing with 4 planes and 4 profiles.

pineapple,

i tried to loft the 45 degree section the first time, but the loft would come out weird. it wouldnt follow the contour.

i can see lofting the 2 straight pieces.

but how about the 2" radius 45degree bend?

thanks for the help

steve

Add a sketch which pass through the center line of the 45 deg part and use it as a guide for the loft.

i used a loft, however i clicked the function " center line" path or guide line. that made the loft follow along a center line resulting in exactly what i wanted.

i was also trying to use a "guide curve" but it seems that a guide curve has to be a spline. is this true?

pineapple i will check that model when i get home.

thanks for everything guys.

Guide curve need to intersect both profiles and it can be any open loop sketch.
