 Post subject: Derived Standard
PostPosted: Fri Oct 29, 2004 3:26 pm
Hi,

I have created "Derived standard" from a existing Industry Standard using Tools>Options>Data options>Edit Standards Data.
But I could not find the way to include this derived standard to my Toolbox.

Help please.
JRat.

Are you using SW 2004 or 2005?
I just tried it in 2005 and any new standards are automatically added into my Toolbox and my Hole Wizard.
Can you see the standard you created in your Hole Wizard?
Did you accidentally check the disable box for your new Standard.
Do the rest of your Toolbox Standards seem to be working okay?
If you go to the Toolbox Pulldown and select "Browser Configuration" does you new standard exist in the options there?
Do you have Toolbox installed locally or on a network?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out what is differnt from my setup.

Hi tbryant,

Here the answers...

2004 SP3.0

Yes, I could see my new standard in "Hole Wizard" and it's working good like other standards.

Yes, other standards are working fine.

Yes' the new standard is available in "Browser Configuration" options..??? (I mean Catalogue, Chapter, Page & Catalogue document)

Yes, the toolbox is installed in my locall PC.

In Toolbaox > Structural Steel >..... there is only few standards are displaying. (Ansi Inch, BSI, CSIC, DIN, ISO & JIS). Exactly here I need my new standard should display.
---
Now I explain little more about my situation.
- Our company have a seperate own catalogue for all the standard components (including structural members) we are using.
- We always refer the codes from our own catalogue. (for 2D drawings)
- So it will be more helpful if we can have the same catalogue in SolidWorks.

Thank you,
JRat :)

What Standard did you derive yours from?
I played around with it a litte bit and from what I can tell if you derive from a standard that dosen't contain any Structural Members , like the Metric one, then your new Standard won't contain them either.
If you haven't done this already, try creating a derived standard from the Ansi Inch Standard and see if you get it to work that way.

Hi Todd,

I have derived my new standard from Solidworks existing DIN standard.
After your thought i have also tried with AnsiInch standard too. But the new standard is not listed in my "ToolBox>Structural Steel...".

Is anything I am missing? :bang:

Is this way of creating derivied standard is working at your end? Particularly in Structural Steel.

Thanks,
JRat

It is working for me on both SW 2004 and 2005. I will look at it again when I get back into the office in the morning and let you know if I think of anything.

I made a derived Standard from the DIN Standard and got the following results. I can se the structural Steel parts in the Tool Options -> Data Options -> Edit Data tab for both the DIN Standard and my new one.
You should also be able to go into the oolbox Pulldown menu and choose "Browser Cnfiguration" And the Structural Members section should be a chapter under your new Standard.
You should also be able to see your parts in the Toolbox section of thte Feature Manager. I took some screen shots to make it easier to see.
If you aren;t seeing this take a look at the directory where you told SW to intall Common Data, this is where Toolbox gets installed. If you installed Tolbox on your local machine it would default to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Solidworks Data\Browser
Under teh Browser folder all of your standards should be listed.
I can browse to a folder Todd (or hatever you named your standard) and under that you should see folders for the different sections or chapters in that standard. Do you see a Structural Members folder under you new Standard and if you do what is in it.
Hope this helps

Thanks Todd, Your reply helps me a lot.
Before I haven't checked this with Assembly document. Now it works well in Assembly document. But I couldn't find my New Derived Standard in Part Document. I have attached a snap shot tif file of my Part document menu.
Is this work in Part at your end?
I have checked the folder which you have specified, there my New standard is sit quite.

How can I attach a picture directly to the board?

Sorry to disturb you more.
JRat

I may be wrong, and if I am hopefully one of the other SW guys who use this forum will have a better answer, but I think that the interface from a pat file is just something that is left over from when SW bought Cimlogic ho made The Toolbox icon. I don't think you can add anything to that interface. You may be able to go into the database files and do it, but I wounld't recommend it.
If you want to access yout library from a part file you may want to look at doing it a weldment profiles or as library features instead of from the toolbox interface. It seems like they are moving all toolbox stufff to the assembly environment.
