SW 2010 -I've never used PhotoWorks before, but I was trying to get a photo-realistic view of something, to see if I could use the image, in lieu of an actual photo, on our website.
So far, it looks like all it can do is take something that looks fairly ok on-screen, and make it look like total crap  . After grinding away for about 12-15 seconds, at that. Is this why it's no longer supported for SW2012? Or maybe it's my display card (which does support RealView graphics, by the way)?

Hey Chris,

In my limited experience, PhotoWorks was an awesome rendering package for its price. The software was capable of creating some amazing photo realistic images. However, the problem I had with the software was that it was difficult for inexperienced users to achieve the desired results. That is one of the reasons SolidWorks made the transition from PhotoWorks to PhotoView 360. I guarantee you that the quality of image you created is due to the settings of the rendering environment and not the video card. In order to get the "right" look in your rendering you need to find the perfect balance of all the environmental settings.

In your post you mentioned that you are running SolidWorks 2010. If you have the software available to you, I would strongly recommend that you give PhotoView 360 is try. PV360 is a slicker, easier to use stand-alone application that is included with SolidWorks Professional and SolidWorks Premium. The 2010 version of PV360 is not quite at the level of 2011 and 2012 releases but it was more than capable of photo-realistic images with the minimal of environmental settings.

OK, SolidWorks Geek, with your encouragement I went back & realized that I hadn't even paid attention to the little PhotWorks Studio icon (duh  !) . That makes a major difference - now it's looking pretty cool -thanks! Will mess around some more with the environment & lights.
