Hi all,
I have a task. That is converting SAE ports (piping) to BSPP parts. :bang:

I need suggestions and guidance from all of you.

What are the factors to be considered in this task?

If anybody came across such a task, please post your experience.

Umm...

Do you have to change manifold ports or just by use of fittings? Finding the right fitting is not to difficult depending on the space requiredments. Retooling for machining might be a differnet matter if CNC is being used it shouldn't be a problem either. I can post some usefull links from work tomorrow, I think. Until then check out this link

My actual work is, I need to change some SAE ports to BSPP in a hydraulic actuatr.

What I did is, I took the Tube OD for the appropriate SAE port and matched the nearest tube OD (BSPP) from the BSPP standards.

here I considered only Tube OD.

Do you have any idea, what are the pther factors to be ocnsidered ?

You will have to make sure the compression range of the tube ferrule is enough. No fittings manufacturer will tell you the range they will most likely tell you it will only work with there style fitting and they have adapters to accomplish your task. The other thing to consider is pressure. Are your fittings under alot of pressure or is your saftey factor pretty large?

if you have a female SAE port you will be unable to machine it to the same
or closest size bspp . as the SAE port is machined with the counterbore to receive the oring and the bspp is left flat as it is a face seal type of fitting.

cant really say i understand the reasoning , but iget quircky stuff like this all the time too.

the only practical solution is to move up in size to the next largest bspp.

or if not practical to weld up the port and remachine to bspp.

what size SAE port do you have now?

i believe your best bet is to machine these out to 1/2 bspp ports.

if you have the material to do so.
